These Halloween Sugar Cookies are buttery almond cut-out cookies, baked until lightly golden and decorated with bright, spooky icing in orange, black, red and green. They are a fun, festive bake for Halloween parties, kids' decorating sessions and seasonal dessert displays.

Created by Chef Edmond Roukoz, this recipe combines a soft butter and almond sugar cookie dough with a simple sugar icing that you can thicken for piped outlines or thin out into a smooth glaze. Roll the dough, cut it into any Halloween shape you like (ghosts, pumpkins, bats or witches' hats), and decorate with colourful icing.

      Cursed Royal Icing

      1. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and milk (or liquid of choice) until smooth & drizzly.
      2. Optional: Add vanilla extract to make a vanilla icing, or use any flavoring you like. (Or no flavoring!)
      3. Start with less liquid for a thicker icing, or add more liquid to make a thinner powdered sugar glaze. If the texture gets too thin, whisk in powdered sugar 1 tablespoon at a time until you get your desired consistency.
      4. Add colour of your choice to decorate as necessary
